There is Trained and Untrained

(Inspired by Denzel Washington (Creasy) in Man on Fire)

Creasy wasn’t lying: “There is no such thing as tough. There is trained and untrained. Now which are you?” And you don’t need a stopwatch or a sparring mat to spot the difference. Just go to the grocery store, sit in traffic, or scroll social media for five minutes. Life puts it on display every day.

The trained? They’ve put in the work. They’ve faced some things. They’ve learned to stay grounded when life throws a punch. They don’t need to announce how tough, smart, or important they are — because training speaks for itself.

The untrained? Whole different story. They overcompensate. They talk louder, flex harder, and try to control the room because deep down, they know they don’t have the tools. And here’s the truth: the harder they try to prove it, the more obvious it becomes they don’t have it. Instead of looking strong, they just look like assholes.

Trained vs. Untrained in Real Life

Trained doesn’t mean perfect. It means prepared. It means you’ve developed the discipline to respond instead of react. You don’t need to make every little inconvenience into an opera. You don’t crumble when someone disagrees with you. You don’t throw shade, ghost, or explode every time you feel challenged.

Untrained people? They can’t help themselves. They melt down in traffic. They belittle others to feel bigger. They posture in the room but fall apart the second things don’t go their way. Their whole identity is performance — a cover-up for the fact that they’ve never done the work.

The Truth Bomb

Nobody starts trained. We all begin untrained, tripping over ourselves, overthinking, overreacting, and trying way too hard. But training is the difference between living small and living free.

Because in life, just like in Creasy's world, there are only two categories: trained and untrained. One creates calm, confidence, and respect. The other? Chaos, overcompensation, and a whole lot of people rolling their eyes.

Now which are you?
